  • What we are building here in Austin is building a Conservation Power Plant.

  • There is a tremendous opportunity to lower the energy consumption in buildings with very simple measures.
  • You would think that we would be reaching the saturation point, but with new technologies we are achieving energy efficiency on top of previous gains.
  • Lighting efficiency is a key example that just keeps getting better.

  • I think energy efficiency is a very good way to slow down the effects of global warming.
  • Austin Energy has received long term support from the community.
  • We have proven that energy conservation measures have deferred the need to build a new power plant.
  • Ideally, the future should be that we are making our buildings more efficient and developing better technologies.

Chapter Eight

  • 500 Megawatt power plant will supply about 90 thousand homes.
  • Instead of building another power plant we should consider investing in energy efficiency. We have proven that you can do that over the long run. It can be done for all the right reasons like environmentally, economically, and global warming.
