Kilowatt Ours Interviews
Mark Wenzler - Director of Clean Air Programs, National Parks Conservation Association
Mark Wenzler directs the Clean Air Programs for National Parks Conservation Association which offers public policy officials and the public about the impact of air pollution and global warming on our National Parks. The organization’s goals include both education and legislation, as the Clean Air Program petitions Congress and the current administration works to strengthen legislative and regulatory protections for park air quality and to enforce the clean air laws already in effect.
Mark Wenzler - Part One
Chapter Three
- The views can be cut down from 100 miles to less than 3 miles on a hazy day.
- If you can see that haze you are breathing it. That can't be healthy.
- Many days people will show up at a national park to get some clean air and find a notice posted that the air is of porr quality.
Mark Wenzler - Part Two
Chapter Three
- Imagine that you've planning for a year your vacation in the great smoky mountains and the first thing you see is a "code red" sign that says it is a bad air quality day.
- Most of the pollution today comes from Coal fired power plants. We have a long way to go and we're not going to get there by building new coal power plants.
- National Park Service has been documenting haze conditions daily.
- We also analyze what is in that pollution and we know that it is from coal plants.
