Wally McGuire - Part One

Chapter Eight

  • "Flex Your Power" program was an attempt to get people to immediately conserve energy during the energy crisis of 2001.
  • Being efficient has not hurt the economy at all and in fact it could be a boon.
  • If California still has a cost effective saving potential of 30%, the rest of the country should be at least at the 30% level and probably beyond.

Wally McGuire - Part Two

Chapter Eight

  • When we went through the droughts of the 70's Californians learned to conserve water, and they haven't gone back because it just doesn't make sense to waste when you can conserve.
  • Our gains in energy conservation during the crisis have been sustained and people are responding to this day.
  • Not using a kilowatt of energy is the best and cheapest energy you can use. It costs a very small percentage of what it costs to build new infrastructure.

Wally McGuire - Part Three

Chapter Eight

  • We did all the things that we had to do to educate the public and then we worked with big users to find ways to reduce their needs.
  • California has made a policy that for every kilowatt of energy savings a utility can show they get money for that savings.
  • Now it is just as beneficial for a utility to save a kilowatt as it is to generate it.
  • Energy efficiency is the biggest resource of energy we have available.
