Larry Gibson - Environmentalist and Activist
Larry Gibson has devoted
his life to saving the mountain on which his family has lived on or near the
18th century. In the mid 1980s, Kayford Mountain and the surrounding peaks have
been subjected to systematic destruction by the coal mining industry. In the
devastating footage shown in Kilowatt Ours, we can see the evolution of Larry’s
once majestic homeland into an environmental wasteland. Together with his community
and organizations such as Keepers of the Mountains Foundations, Larry is committed
to telling the story of these mountains and the environmental atrocities to
which the mountains and the mountain communities were subject.
