Andrew Fahlund - Vice President for Conservation, American Rivers

Andrew Fahlund

Andrew was appointed Vice President for Conservation at American Rivers in 2004. Working with a staff of more than 20, his department is responsible for developing and implementing innovative policy and science tools to protect and restore targeted rivers and watersheds through four principle campaigns Healthy Waters, Water for Life, River Renewal, and River Heritage.

  • Hydropower dams can be operated okay but so many are operated in such a way that the river is left in nearly a drought condition then floods the river with tremendous flows.
  • Hydro will continue to be an important part of Americas mix. It needs to be run differently.
  • They consume huge amounts of land especially in the southeast.
  • Dams are used for water supply and flood control, but some are for hydroelectric dams on larger streams.
